Senior Farmers Market
Nutrition Program (SFMNP)

The purpose of SFMNP is to provide resources in the form of fresh,
nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables, and herbs
from Farmers markets, roadside stands and community supported agriculture
programs to low-income seniors; Increase the domestic consumption
of agricultural commodities by expanding or aiding in the expansion
of domestic Farmers markets, roadside stands, and community support
agriculture programs, and; Develop or aid in the development of
new and additional Farmers markets, roadside stands, and community
support agriculture programs. SFMNP benefits are provided to eligible
recipients for use during the harvest season. In Pennsylvania FMNP
operates from June 1st until November 30th. This is the major growing
season in Pennsylvania.

The WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) is associated
with the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants
and Children, popularly known as WIC, provides supplemental foods,
health care referrals and nutrition education at no cost to low-income
pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding post-partum women,
and to infants and children up to 5 years of age, who are found
to be at nutritional risk. The purpose of FMNP is to provide fresh,
unprepared, locally grown fruits and vegetables to WIC recipients,
and to expand the awareness, use of and sales at farmers’
markets.

Hauge’s Farmers Market is a new market open in Fairmont, WV.
The Market will be held on Saturdays, 9am - 1 pm, starting on May
20 and running through October 21. In addition to supporting local
West Virginia farms, they also bring in vendors from Pennsylvania
and Maryland. Some of the items they feature include: Organic Produce,
Meat, Eggs, Dairy, Honey, Jams, Specialty Foods, Spices, Bread &
Bakery, Snack Vendors, Fresh Cut Flowers, and Pottery & Crafts.
